Welcome to the website of the Isle Royale Institute at Michigan Technological University! In 2012, the Institute will continue to focus on life-long learning, assistance to the Isle Royale Wolf-Moose Study, and assessment of opportunities in water-related and underwater research.
Opportunities for life-long learning include our new Upper Peninsula Youth to Parks Initiative (in partnership with Isle Royale National Park), MooseWatch for Educators (in collaboration with the Isle Royale Wolf-Moose Study and MTU Teacher Professional Development Program), and three Road Scholar programs (in collaboration with Elderhostel, Inc. and the Rock Harbor Lodge and Marina). Additional information on these opportunities is found under the webpage titled Education.
The Institute is currently contributing to scientific research at Isle Royale by assisting the Isle Royale Wolf-Moose Study in administration of its successful MooseWatch Expeditions. This program recruits volunteers to collect field data essential to the continued monitoring and research of wolf and moose populations at Isle Royale. In addition, we expect to announce some exciting opportunities in water-related and underwater research in the years ahead, as we settle into the interdisciplinary surroundings of the Great Lakes Research Center. Additional information on these opportunities is found under the webpage titled Research.
Of special note, the Isle Royale Institute continues to assess opportunities, potential markets, and operational challenges for development of programs in scientific research and lifelong learning. The result will be a new strategic business plan for the Institute. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions regarding the mission, approaches, and future programming of the Isle Royale Institute, please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
